New services are coming to Duncan to provide support for Indigenous women and women of colour.
According to the Support Network for Indigenous Women and Women of Colour (SNIWWOC), they’re expanding their one-on-one counselling program to all women who are identifying as Black, Indigenous, and people of Colour (BIPOC) who are living in the Duncan area.
In a media release, they say extending these services will increase access to those who need it.
“Community members can have access to BIPOC Registered Therapists that have the tools and life-experiences to help our clients heal their intergenerational traumas,” they say.
In addition to providing services for SNIWWOC and BIPOC, they say services for their newest Queer Indigenous Project will be available to Racialized 2SLGBTQ Duncan residents.
They add providing extended services is one way of adopting an inclusive environment for all.
“We are the community that we serve,” they say. “SNIWWOC is ready to make an impact in the lives of our newly welcomed Duncan community members.”
The program will help provide relief to eradicating racism and discrimination, enhancing reconciliation efforts, and promoting the history of 2SLGBTQ+ movement, challenges and successes in Duncan.
