Last month’s bomb cyclone event was handled admirably by the North Island 9-1-1 team in Campbell River, according to a council bulletin.
The dispatch centre in Campbell River provides service to 81 fire departments across BC. That includes most Vancouver Island and qathet region communities from Nanaimo north. During the storm, 70 communities in their coverage area were impacted.
Thanks to the support of additional staff and the back-up dispatch centre, the team handled 437 emergency calls over a 28-hour period while the storm raged. They typically handle up to 120 per day.
The bulletin says they provided quality service to all their customers during the storm event.
