Island Coastal Economic Trust appoints two local directors

Two new members have been sworn into the Island Coastal Economic Trust, and that means both North Cowichan and the RDN will get representation.

Mayor Rob Douglas will be joined by RDN chair Vanessa Craig on the board and was appointed to the position by the members of the Central-South Island Regional Advisory Committee.

According to Island Coast Trust, both the North Island-Sunshine Coast and Central-South Island Regional Committees play a specific role ensures all areas get their concerns heard and addressed in a timely manner.

“They play a central role in the Trust’s governance, ensuring that its work reflects the needs and priorities of local communities,” they say in a release. “These committees provide key insights into regional challenges and opportunities.”

Duncan mayor Michelle Staples says both Craig and Douglas have proven they’re ready to take on new challenges and will serve the board well.

“They’ve contributed valuable community-led perspectives on the regional advisory committee and, as board members, they’ll further strengthen the Trust’s ability to realize its strategic goals,” Staples says.

Douglas says he is humbled by the appointment and is ready to get to work.

“I’ve always been an advocate for strong economic development practices,” he says. “I look forward to the opportunity to contribute my experience as director at the Trust.”

Craig, who has served her community in multiple capacities, echos Douglas’s readiness to serve the Trust, and adds her career has prepared her for this challenge.

“I appreciate hearing the diverse perspectives from rural and urban communities shared across the Trust’s regional advisory committees,” she says. “I look forward to continuing that commitment as a director.”

The Island Coastal Economic Trust was established to invest in inclusive economic development, diversification and innovation.
