First Nations’ vote could have big impact on Cowichan-Malahat-Langford riding, 50 others

The Director of VIU’s Centre for Pre-confederation Treaties and Reconciliation says there’s a long history of aboriginal people being excluded from voting, but times have changed, and First Nations should take advantage of it.

Doug White says many of the problems aboriginal people are grappling with arise from federal law and policy, so voting in federal elections is critical.

White says the AFN has identified 51 ridings where the First Nations vote could have a major impact.

They include Cowichan-Malahat-Langford, Nanaimo-Ladysmith, and Courtenay-Alberni.
