Fifty-two people have been arrested, and 200 hours of extra patrols by North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP as part of BC’s Safer Community Action Plan.
Police say they’ve also laid 40 charges with various criminal offenses, and they executed 15 warrants while issuing 20 violation tickets around the region.
The project was able to seize four illegal handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, numerous knives, a baton, and several large quantities of drugs in the area including fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Staff sergeant Ken Beard says the recovery of the stolen items, weapons and drugs will go a long way to making the streets safe.
“The resulting disruption in drug trafficking, and associated violence in our community has had an important impact in our community,” he says.
Police say they were also able to recover two stolen vehicles during the operation.
RCMP say the operation was funded by the Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program.
