Things are already busy on BC Ferries sailings to the Island, as people head out for the last long weekend of the Summer. (check out traffic and departures/arrivals here.)
And while some sailings have been overloads, Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says Labour Day isn’t usually that busy compared to other long weekends, especially for sailings back to the Lower Mainland.
“The traffic sort of breaks itself up on the Sunday and the Monday,” she says. “Obviously we’ve got a lot of families with kids going back to school on Tuesday, so some folks opt to return home on Sunday so they have one day at home to get the kids organized.”
Marshall says as well as the “back to school” factor, weather will play a big role in whether people decide to travel this weekend.
For most routes this is also the last weekend of the Summer schedule; and the number of sailings will be reduced come Tuesday.
