Ahead of the cold weather season, the CVRD has announced it has secured a new location for an emergency warming centre.
In a release the regional district says the location will be the parking lot of the Ramada Inn on Highway 1 and open as needed between November 15th and March 31st of next year.
They add the CVRD will be funding “extra outreach staff in the downtown core and 24/7 security” on site.
“The plans for the new space will provide the respite required during extreme winter weather events, and we are grateful for the work of our staff, Lookout Housing, and our many partners to find a viable solution for this critical service,” said Vice Chair Kate Segall.
They say Lookout Housing and Health Society will be managing the centre again.
The CVRD says last year the criteria to open the emergency warming centre occurred 42 times.
