Ladysmith Oceanside incumbent defeated in provincial election

An upset in Ladysmith Oceanside saw incumbent Adam Walker lose his seat in government to NDP candidate Stephanie Higginson in last night’s election.

Several ridings still have yet to be declared, but Waker says after a long-fought battle he is hopeful the new MLA will provide residents across the riding a voice when it comes to addressing their issues.

He says the turnout was phenomenal, but constituents have spoken and voiced their preference.

“It felt like real momentum, but at the end of the day it seems like more people are interested in having a party to represent them rather than an independent,” he says. “At the end of the day, it’s up to the voters.”

Walker says this isn’t the end of the road, and he will continue to volunteer in the community and provide support wherever he can.

Walker served as MLA for the Parksville Qualicum riding in 2020 and lost with 5,334 votes.
