Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North will get its own day for their 20th anniversary.
In a release, Habitat says this year marks 20 years since they opened their doors, focusing on building safe, affordable homes for those in need on the Island.
To celebrate the milestone, Vancouver Island mayors have announced that October 7 will be known as Habitat for Humanity Day.
Courtenay mayor Bob Wells says their work to build homes has had a big impact on their region.
“Declaring October 7 as Habitat for Humanity Day is a testament to the difference they’ve made in the lives of so many,” said Wells.
They say this announcement aligns with World Habitat Day, a day all about reflecting on the right to shelter. Communications Director for Habitat Stefano Tromba says they are honoured by this proclamation.
“As we celebrate 20 years of service, we are reminded of the power of community and the importance of ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home,” said Tromba.
“We look forward to continuing our work and making an even greater impact in the years to come.”
For their anniversary, Habitat will be running a fundraiser called 20 years, $20,000, with the money to be given to their next project in Campbell River.
