Ladysmith Mayor Aaron Stone to step down later this month

The Town of Ladysmith says Stone is resigning as mayor as of September 30th, and will also step down as Chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

Councillor Tricia McKay will take over as Acting Mayor on October 1st, and a by-election is expected to be held in the Spring of 2025.

Stone calls it a difficult decision reached after weeks of deliberation and discussion with family, friends, and advisors.

He will spend the next four weeks working with colleagues to ensure his departure is as smooth as possible.

Stone has been Ladysmith’s mayor since he was first elected in 2014.

He thanks everyone for their support over the years, saying it’s been “an honour and a privilege to serve as mayor in the community.”

The Town of Ladysmith extends its gratitude to Mayor Stone for his service and dedication to the community over the past nine years.
