Vancouver Island’s own Nicholas Bennett has won the gold medal at the Paralympics today.
Bennett, who is from Parksville, won gold at the Men’s 100 metre breaststroke SB14 in the morning, with a time of 1 minute and 3.9 seconds.
The Canadian Paralympic Committee says with this win, Bennett not only gets his first gold medal at the games, but he becomes the first Canadian to win gold at the Paralympics this year.
The win comes after he set a world record in the men’s 400-metre medley at the Paralympic Trials back in May.
