Missing man found deceased near Port Alberni

A missing Vancouver Islander has been found deceased. 

The man was last seen around 1 a.m. on August 30 leaving his friend’s house and was reported missing by his family after not returning home. 

A search ensued and the man was found at 2:45 p.m. the same day down an embankment and suffered fatal injuries. 

Port Alberni Fire Department and Search and Rescue extracted the male from the steep embankment and used a helicopter to hoist the man up the cliff. 

RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services examined, and the incident is under further investigation to determine what happened. 

The family of the man has been notified.
