The World’s Largest Hockey Stick and Puck is no more, after crews began dismantling it today in Duncan, and it could be completely gone as early as this Friday.
That’s according to the stick’s new owner Bart Robertson, who says they’ve been testing its structural integrity.
“We’ve been drilling in core samples to find out where it’s rotten and get a stability report on it. So, cutting it today into sections, dropping it to the ground and then reassessing.”
He adds that they plan to be out of there by Friday. Work crews have sectioned off a part of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre parking lot to make way for the cranes.
Robertson owns Genuine Collectibles, a company based in Mill Bay that will turn the stick into memorabilia.
“In the smaller version. I have a key FOB, backpack FOB that’s round and they’ll run around 20 bucks including taxes,” he said in an interview with Sun FM. They will also have larger pieces of “a portion of the stick and the puck in a polycarbonate case.”
If you want to go and say one last goodbye to the stick Robertson and the team from Genuine Collectables are on site answering questions and doing a draw to win a piece of the stick.
