Strong winds, lots of rain, and even thunder and lightning are in the forecast for this evening and overnight.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about a storm system moving north from Oregon and Washington States. It will cross over into BC’s south coast later tonight.
According to Environment Canada, strong southerly winds are expected to precede thunderstorm activity late in the evening. Thunderstorms are expected to follow, bringing periods of heavy showers and the potential for gusting winds after midnight.
The alert applies to the east coast of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, along with the Southern Gulf Islands.
The storm may cause tree branches to break, resulting in localized power outages. The heavy showers may also cause water to pool on the roads along with reduced visibility.
