Thunder, lightning, and heavy rain in forecast for Island Saturday night

Strong winds, lots of rain, and even thunder and lightning are in the forecast for this evening and overnight.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about a storm system moving north from Oregon and Washington States. It will cross over into BC’s south coast later tonight.

The alert applies to the east coast of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, along with the Southern Gulf Islands.

The storm may cause tree branches to break, resulting in localized power outages. The heavy showers may also cause water to pool on the roads along with reduced visibility.
