A two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near the Malahat has resulted in several people being taken to hospital.
According to police, the crash happened yesterday [Aug. 3, 2024], around 5:40 p.m. when a grey Acura MDX crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic, striking a grey Honda Civic head-on.
Police say Highway Patrol responded quickly to the scene and immediately began first aid on the female driver of the Honda, who was in and out of consciousness.
She was transported to hospital, in serious condition, along with two children who were in the back seat, but police say the extent of the children’s injuries are still not known.
The driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries, and police add, so far impairment doesn’t seem to be a factor in the crash.
Both lanes of the Malahat were closed for several hours because of the crash, and RCMP say, the road was re-opened around 9:15 p.m.
If anyone has information or dashcam footage, they’re asked to contact Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514.
