A heat warning remains in effect for East Vancouver Island this long weekend.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the heat warning comes because of a strong ridge of high pressure over the region, resulting in daytime highs near 30 degrees and overnight lows in the high teens.
The warning applies from Campbell River to Duncan, which is expected to last until the end of the weekend.
They say while the heat affects everyone, health risks are bigger for people living alone, seniors, people with physical or mental health issues, and those with limited mobility.
While the heat continues, they ask you to check in on your loved ones who have high risks, ask a health professional how medications can affect your heat risk, take breaks in a cool or shaded place, and to not leave children or pets alone in a parked vehicle.
