Single lane traffic may be restored in the summer to a section of Allenby Road closed by a landslide following heavy rain in November of 2021.
In its June newsletter, Cowichan Tribes says it’s working with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure on a temporary solution while a long-term plan is developed.
“Following recent ground and aerial LiDAR surveys, Cowichan Tribes and MOTI are committed to working toward the potential reopening of single lane alternating traffic this summer.”
The section of Allenby Road that connects the industrial area south of Duncan to downtown has been closed for more than two-and-a-half years.
Cowichan Tribes says talks are underway to have short- and long-term remediation work done by Khowutzun Development Corporation.
A final plan for slope stabilization is still in development, and in its newsletter Cowichan Tribes says “comprehensive technical analysis has confirmed that a long-term rock blanket, shotcrete, and soil anchor solutions are viable.
