Washed out section of Cowichan Valley Trail could reopen this year

Part of the Cowichan Valley Trail (CVT) that was washed out in November of 2021 is a few steps closer to being rebuilt and could reopen in a few months.

The CVRD says that it’s obtained the necessary funding to repair a 40 metre section of the CVT near Agira Road in Duncan.

They say that funding will come from the British Columbia Disaster Financial Assistance Program and could cover up to $850,000 of the repairs.

“The extensive damage to our parks and trails during the significant atmospheric river event in 2021 was unprecedented,” said Aaron Stone.

The first phase of the project involves installing a 7-metre-wide steel arch culvert over Bings Creek.

Stone adds that they look forward to reopening the trail later this year.
