Island Health is telling restaurants to warn customers before they order raw oysters harvested in BC.
There’s been an ongoing outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness associated with eating raw oysters from BC waters.
Medical Health Officer Dr. Paul Hasselback says the illness is caused by a naturally occurring bacteria that thrives in warm water.
Hasselback says there have been 15 cases of the illness reported to Island Health, and 50 cases reported across the province.
