The Cowichan Valley School Board is backing a group of VIU nursing students trying to score a big grant for a local school.
Chair Candace Spilsbury says the Board has written a letter of support for a 100 thousand dollar Aviva community grant application.
She says the students want to use the money to improve Duncan’s Khowhemun Elementary School, where they did some of their course work.
The renovations would include a walking track, outdoor fitness area and gazebo.

Spilsbury says, so far, this is the only Aviva application from the SD 79 area which gives them an advantage when it comes to rallying community support.
That said, though, Spilsbury is clear they’re not trying to discourage others from trying for Aviva grants.
