A pair of Vancouver Island residents are concerned the main island is not represented by a senator in Ottawa, so they have written a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Laurie Gourlay of Cedar and Scott Aikenhead of Ladysmith are the president and director of the Vancouver Island and Coast Conservation Society.
Gourlay says he is confused how a small province like P.E.I can be represented and Vancouver Island is not.
Gourlay says according to the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister has all of the power to appoint senators. In addition, he says they would like to see a referendum on the matter at this year’s federal election.
