Some heated social media debate about the future of Ladysmith’s fire siren has caught the attention of the town’s mayor.
Aaron Stone says people are discussing the siren’s place in the community and if it should be silenced or not.
In particular, he says those against it feel it’s disruptive and unnecessary.
On the other hand, he says those for it say it lets people know there is an emergency and reminds drivers as well as kids at a local school to be aware of nearby fire trucks.
Stone says the matter could one day land on council’s lap.

The siren is located at the Ladysmith Fire Hall and has been a staple in the town for decades.
