Flooding not an issue for most of Cowichan Valley during recent storms

Most Cowichan Valley residents weren’t impacted by that recent storm system that wreaked havoc on some parts of Vancouver Island, thanks to a project spearheaded by the CVRD and local governments.

Flooding wasn’t a major issue in the valley this time around due to a series of infrastructure upgrades. Norm Olive is with the CVRD

Olive says the last stage of the project will be completed in 2015.
Flood control was a huge issue in 2008 when parts of the Trans-Canada Highway and rail line became submerged under water and in 2009 when Duncan was in a state of emergency as a result of flooding.
