People needing follow-up care for kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants will soon be able to get it on the mid-Island.
Currently, the only option for patients is a clinic in Victoria, but Island Health and BC Transplant are now setting up an outpatient clinic in Nanaimo.
Teresa Backx is a Manager for Renal Services with Island Health, she says the new clinic is set to open in April 2015,
The new services will be based at the recently renovated Kidney Care Clinic on Boundary Crescent in Nanaimo. Backx says for most patients in the mid and north Island Nanaimo will obviously be a better option and for others, such as those in Duncan, it will mean having a choice.
