Cowichan Tribes: Unemployment rates high but programs in place to help

The Cowichan Tribes have responded to remarks about high First Nations’ unemployment rates made by Cowichan Valley NDP MLA Bill Routley.
Matthew Louie is a councillor with the Cowichan Tribes.
He acknowledges there is a problem, however, says there are programs in place that address the issues
Last week in the Leg, Routley criticized the Liberals’ position on temporary foreign workers saying…doing more to get First Nations into the workforce is the right way to handle the labour and skills shortage.

In addition, he challenged the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce to help First Nations find job opportunities and encourage local business owners to hire them.
