The Cowichan School Board will have more than one trustee for the first time since 2012, after November’s election.
And a team of candidates has declared their intention to try for six of the seven seats.
The group calls itself “Students First“, and includes former trustees Barb De Groot, Cathy Schmidt and Candace Spilsbury as well as newcomers Keith Chicquen, Joanne DeLure and Joe Thorne.
Spilsbury served as the SD 79 Board Chair for two years. She says it’s time for residents to get the trustees they want, instead of having somebody appointed.

Mike McKay has been the lone official trustee for SD 79 since being appointed by the education minister following the dismissal of the entire board for failing to submit a balanced budget.
