Crowder waiting for debate on derelict vessels bill

Dealing with derelict vessels is the focus of a new private members bill by Nanaimo-Cowichan NDP MP Jean Crowder.

She’s in Ottawa, waiting to hear when debate will be scheduled on Bill C-231. Crowder says it would clear up confusion around dealing with derelict vessels and delegate responsibility to the Coast Guard.

Crowder says while derelict vessels are a major challenge for coastal communities; they’re also a problem on lakes.

Crowder says there will be an hour of debate on the bill some time before Christmas, and an hour after. If it passes it’ll go to committee for closer examination.
