The City of Duncan has upheld its order to demolition the Red Balloon building located downtown because of safety and aesthetic concerns.
Mayor Phil Kent says council reconfirmed the order at Tuesday’s remedial action reconsideration hearing after listening to the building’s owner Susan Faulkner and her lawyer.
Kent adds Faulkner will be served with a notice that indicates she has 10 days to apply for a permit to total the structure safely.
Council says she has to start demolition five days after the permit is approved and must finish the whole process within 40 days or the city will level it and charge her.
The future of the structure has been the topic of a legal battle for years.
