The lower Cowichan River recreational use water quality advisory was lifted on Wednesday.
Island Health says the recommendation was put in place last Saturday for the area of the river downstream from the Allenby Road bridge to the mouth of the river.
They add repeat samples taken on Monday demonstrate it has returned to its usual excellent water quality and is considered acceptable for recreational purposes such as tubing, wading and swimming.
Island Health says the significant rainfall occurring mid-week last week likely caused washing of the land adjacent to the river and storm water returns may have carried high concentrations of bacteria into the main stream.
