Island Health’s updated plan for End of Life Services will double the number of hospice beds from the current 32 to a total of 64 by 2020.
The organization’s director of home and community care and end of life care, Lois Cosgrave, explains how this announcement will impact the Cowichan Valley.
She says six beds will be opened in the Comox Valley, five in Oceanside, two in Sooke, three in Campbell River, one in Mt. Waddington and 11 in 2019-20 with Nanaimo, the Gulf Islands and Victoria as priority areas.
Cosgrave says at this point each bed should cost 395 dollars per day.
