The Coastal Fire Centre is getting ready to impose a campfire ban, as wildfires continue to cause problems across the province.
Danger ratings are now at high throughout our area, and the Fire Centre says as of noon on Thursday there will be a total ban on open burning including campfires, burning barrels, tiki torches and sky lanterns.
Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says the cold front that’s going to be coming through may actually make things worse.
Drysdale says right now on the mid-Island and Sunshine Coast there’s only one active fire and they’re hoping if people play by the rules and take the ban seriously it will stay that way.
