The North Cowichan/Duncan R.C.M.P. has a new tool at its disposal to curb bike theft and recovery stolen bicycles.
Cyclists can put stickers on their bikes and register them through the 529 Garage App, and police can track the serial numbers of these bikes and recover them if they’re stolen.
Sergeant Kristine Wood with the North Cowichan/Duncan R.C.M.P. says this is a good way of decreasing bike theft in the Cowichan Valley.
Wood says police see a lot of bike thefts and this is measure meant to promote prevention and recovery.
On November 3, there is a 529 Garage bike registration event from 3-6 p.m. at Experience Cycling at 482 Trans-Canada Highway in Duncan.
The app is available for mobile devices on the iPhone operating system.
