With a major storm expected to hit our area, it’s time for motorists to get their heads in the winter driving game.
Mainroad South Island Contracting is running the “Shift into Winter” campaign again, in an effort to make motorists aware of the dangers lurking on the road, especially in less than ideal weather conditions.
Mainroad’s Operations Manager, Leon Bohmer says this campaign is meant to educate motorists about the dangers of winter driving and get them to use a little more caution and allow extra time to get where they’re going
Bohmer says winter tires are the “minimum” requirement for non-commercial drivers.
For commercial vehicles, winter tires and chains are required by law and if drivers are caught without both, they are subject to a $109 fine and the R.C.M.P. and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement staff can impound the vehicle.
It’s not a requirement for non-commercial vehicles to have a set of chains, but it’s recommended.
