Cohousing Cowichan is growing in both numbers and knowledge.
And the group here is now moving forward looking for property for development.
Lorna Medd, a member of the group says, so far, Cohousing Cowichan includes a core group of about 8 families but over 35 people attended a recent event that featured speakers from two cohousing projects in Nanaimo and Courtenay.
She says cohousing communities usually include a “common house,” that’s a building, or space within a larger building, that most often includes a large kitchen and dining room.
Medd says the shared space is intended to act as an extension of the individual private homes…
Medd says Cohousing Cowichan has now begun a membership drive to seek other people interested in the project.
She says cohousing developments usually accommodate between 12 and 30 families.
There are already cohousing developments in Nanaimo, Courtenay, Sooke and Victoria.
