The Compassionate Leaders Project aims to provide Cowichan Valley youth with foundations for building healthy and respectful relationships. Up to 50 students were able to explore skills surrounding self awareness, cultural identity, compassionate communication and combatting discrimination.
Project Leader Ray Anthony says this was done in partnership with the school district and the Cowichan Intercultural Society through funding from the province. Students who took part in the leadership camp took what they learned back to their schools to develop an action plan.
Compassionate Leaders at Lake Cowichan brought Safe Harbour Youth Ambassador Training to their school, where they passed on their insights and skills to primary students.
Anthony says there were 38 participants at this year’s camp.
This year’s leadership camp was funded by a $42,000Â grant from the provincial civil forfeiture proceeds.
