Cowichan-Malahat-Langford MP Alistair MacGregor says marathon US-style elections have no place in Canada. He is introducing a bill that will put a maximum length of 46 days onto election campaigns.
The 2015 election was the longest in national history at 78 days – a move that MacGregor says was costly to the taxpayer.
Currently, the law only states the election period must be a minumum of 36 days, with no maximum.
