The City of Duncan and North Cowichan had a preliminary discussion on how they can deal with some concerns and issues associated with the Vancouver Island Liquor Store along the Trans-Canada highway.
Duncan Mayor Phil Kent says there are many complaints from surrounding businesses about anti-social behaviour, drinking in public and sleeping in doorways especially in the area between Alexander Street and Whistler Street. Kent says the two councils are trying to be as pro-active as possible in dealing with this situation.
The issue is also being referred to the Community Safety Advisory Commission at the Regional District to look at the more complex social issues, and they are looking at expanding a Community Safety study by North Cowichan and the RCMP.
