Alcohol Consumption in BC On The Rise

Alcohol consumption on Vancouver Island and the province as a whole, has steadily been increasing in the past 15 years, according Island Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Hasselback.
Hasselback says we need to start addressing this issue now, before it presents greater issues in the future. In 2015, the average alcohol consumption per adult in the province was almost 9 absolute litres for the year.
The national average for 2015 is 8 absolute litres per adult for the year.
The information was presented by Dr. Hasselback to North Cowichan Council in a report regarding alcohol consumption, illicit drugs, marijuana, prescription drug use, treatment options and the role of local government.
