Pollinator Garden and Bee Sanctuary Coming to the Valley

The declining populations of bees and other pollinating insects have inspired the BC Forest Discovery Centre to create a two-acre teaching pollinator garden and bee sanctuary. The project announcement is part of the centre’s celebration of Earth Day and their 50th Anniversary.
The garden will be the home of specific types of plants that attract over 300 species of bees, birds and insects that are responsible for the major portion of pollination. General Manager Chris Gale says this is a big project, and they are hoping for community collaboration to bring this garden to life.
Gale says they hope this project will inspire other groups in Cowichan Valley to use their garden as a prototype and begin construction of similar projects.
The garden will also be outfitted with interactive screens so visitors and students of all ages can learn more about pollination.
