The judge at the contaminated soil appeal in Vancouver is expected to come to a decision late next week – on whether operaters for the site at the south end of Shawnigan Lake will be allowed to continue dumping contaminated soil.
Meanwhile, the Cowichan Valley Regional District submitted a cross-appeal yesterday in hopes of having the courts reconsider the request to have the contaminated materials and all associated facilities completed removed from the site.
CVRD CAO Brian Carruthers says now its just a waiting game – for the results of this week’s hearing, as well as the dates for the cross-appeal hearing.
Carruthers says the CVRD will continue to provide updates as they come.
