A bald eagle was found shot and near death on a logging road outside Nanaimo recently and is just one of many found shot between Nanaimo and Duncan this week.
Wildlife rescuers have been rushing from call after call to a total of seven shot, poisoned, or injured eagles.
A veterinarian who has been receiving the birds says most of them had to be euthanized because they didn’t stand a chance.
Some of the birds were suffering from lead poising, officials say likely from it feeding on an animal killed by lead bullets.

Rescuers are reminding hunters to check carcasses thoroughly before discarding them.
Birds that survive will go through lengthy rehabilitation before their rescuers hope they’ll eventually be returned to the wild.
